Teeth whitening is the process of whitening teeth known as dental bleaching. It is often performed as a regular procedure in the general dental industry but it is especially popular in the cosmetic dentistry industry. Basically there are three methods of whitening teeth, these include through the use of laser bleaching, the application of bleaching gel and also what is known as natural bleaching. It is possible to perform teeth whitening at home by using bleaching gels on the teeth with a guard tray. What happens then is the oxidizing agents such as carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide are used to brighten the teeth and make them look whiter. After bleaching ones teeth the effect can remain for many months but it will vary from patient to patient depending on a number of factors such as whether that person smokes, drinks coffee, red wine or any dark liquids. It is possible to perform internal bleaching which involves conducting procedures on people who have already attempted to whiten their teeth through endodontic therapy but have had their teeth discolor because of internal staining in the tooth caused by fluids and blood that has stuck on. The difference between internal bleaching and external bleaching is that internal bleaching will lighten and whiten a tooth from the inside out instead of the outside in. Usually this procedure is conducted by drilling a hole into the pulp chamber and then cleaning it out, after while it is then sealed and filled again.
